Humour is a gift that many are talented with, but few can work with it. It is usually to share jokesor stories that renders the other person to laugh. But not everyone has the same humour, it differs from person to person which make each one of us unique.
Today I will be appraising Peter Griffin, a man in a cartoon known as ‘Family Guy’ that has great sense of humour. His character is an exaggeration of a stereotypical American man. Quite fat, drinks loads of beer, pranks people, destroys properties, has lots of fights with random strangers and loves his two sons and wife but not his daughter.
Peter Griffin was born in Mexico and was raise in a fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island. His is the son of Thelma Griffin and Mickey McFinnigan and was raised by Thelma and her husband Francis, his step-father. Recently Peter found out he was of Native American decent, his ancestors had been pushed off the Great Plains. He then also found out in part of his family history that he was part of African American decent, which causes him to go into a breakdown, because he found that his wife, Lois’s ancestors had owned Peter’s ancestor whom were slaves.
He graduated high school, but when taking the IQ test he found that his score was so low, that it was the level below mental retardation. He has a short memory span and has ADHD. He somehow manages to work in a toy factory, where destruction he has done majority of time. With his lack of education, disaster strikes everywhere he goes, he fights with a large chicken, which then destroys half of Quahog, drinks every day, plays silly pranks which basically breaks every law.
Peter Griffin is quite talented in certain ways, he may seem to have very poor judgement, but somehow he is able to do some things that become quite good deeds. For example, his dog Brian was a stray, lonely, beaten, drug addict was about to die from starvation. Peter saw him and felt a love for him and adopted him, they both became best friends because Brian is a dog that can talk. When he truly believes he has done a horrible mistake, he will try everything to fix it. Beauty can be defined as something which is pleasant to look at, but not Peter he is fat, middle-aged and his chin looks like butt cheeks. He is part of the middle class and has a steady pay, with his lack of education, he can get no other jobs, but somehow he devised a devious plan to get welfare checks every month, because he claimed he was disabled. Instead of using the money for the righteous thing, he bribed his children to keep it from his wife and made a moat around his house. He may not have some of the great virtues, he may not show great beauty, but he does have great friends.
His friends are just as great him, Quagmire is quite a lewd person, I believe he is a pilot but is never clearly shown what his job is. Joe is a policeman, he serves and protects the people of Quahog, but is paralysed because Peter ate his legs when lost at sea. They each have something in common, they requite themselves by pranking each other and drinking beer a vast amount of the time.
Though Peter Griffin is not perfect like no human is, and I will compare him to Stan from “American Dad!”. Stan is a man from the United States of America, born and raised there and proud to be an American. He works for the Central Intelligence Agency, he owns a pet alien, his daughter is a hippie protester, his son is a nerd; a typical weakling, he has a fish that has a German accent and his wife is just like any other women.
Peter Griffin loves himself, unlike Stan. The day Peter found out that he was below mental retardation he embraced it and eventually did something to solve it. He went to college, and took a course to allow him to pass the mental retardation on the scale. Stan however, in a moment believed that the apocalypse was coming because there was a drill in the CIA. He drives home, and takes his wife, children, goldfish and alien to the forest to keep them safe from the apocalypse that never happened. Eventually, he realized that there was never an apocalypse; he had made his family believe him for months and had to depend on him to make him feel special which is just bad. If Peter Griffin was in the same situation, he would sit down in his house, with his family, drinking beer and wait until the apocalypse ended, because he knows there is nothing he could do.Would you rather live a stressful life or follow in the path of Peter?
Peter Griffin, I say he is a great man. He has some great virtues but some bad qualities as well. He will rise to the occasion when someone is needed, but is the reason why the occasion turned out so horribly. He may be below mental retardation, but he is still human, he has destroyed his city countless of times, plays pranks on his friends that nearly kills them, he loves his family except his daughter, sometimes. But in the end he shows more perseverance than Stan and is a hero to himself, his dog, his sons, but not his daughter.
