The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate my understanding of Ms. Emily’s feelings of sadness and longing for love by exploring the background of her life because she couldn’t love the others. I’m going to write a scene where the tax collector visits Ms. Emily’s house with my own character to achieve this aim.
My own character, the assessor is allowed to look around Ms. Emily’s house and he can show Ms. Emily’s richness of the past through the furniture and the portrait easily. In addition, I’m able to emphasize Ms. Emily’s crooked love by the scene of killing therefore, Ichose to create a story with the assessor. I will not only show Ms. Emily’s feelings, but also express the story fully in this assignment.

When Ms. Emily didnot pay her taxes, tax collectors went to her dark, old and haunted house with an assessor because she might notpay it if even they visited her house. As expected, she didn’t pay the amount so they planned to confiscate her property as soon as possible.
However, it took several days to judge since she had much property in her house; leather covered furniture or famous arts, because of the richness of her father. She inherited all from him. In particular, there was a portrait of her father above the fireplace which was old and covered with a dust painted by a famous artist. In the portrait, he iswearing formal clothes with a turndown collar and standing firm with his feet set apart. His eyes are looking far away into the distance. His appearance was enough for the assessor to know that he had a self-confidence and wealth when he was alive. Therefore, those valuable creatures belong to her since his father is gone.
But, at the same time, Ms. Emily was annoyed by the tax collectors and the assessor hurried her to pay the tax and rustle in her house. She was not comfortable letting them stay in her house for long time. Therefore, she got an idea…
When the assessor came back to her house alone, she thought that she had a chance that she will never come again. When the assessor found a brown book, oppressive cover of “Live-eviL” with gold lined title, he was surprised by the literary value. Even he didn’t know, the book was suggesting his future.
Ms. Emily smiled at him when he found the book and said “let’s have some tea.”It was the first time to spend his time with her. The assessor thought that Ms. Emily trusted him, thus he didn’t noticed her putting little bits of the powder in his tea; arsenic. There was a “bitter” aftertaste but as drinking, it seemed sweet therefore he did not recognize what she has done.In order to make sure, Ms. Emily tried on assessorto know the effect before she uses to Homer.
The assessor was shouting forhelps but no one came.He writhed in discomfort for a few minutes but no one came for the help because of Ms. Emily’s aloofness from the community therefore he tried to leave the house by himself, exerting all his strengths.
Although, when he opened the door, Ms. Emily stood infront of him.Covered by her giant shadow, glazing at him with her downward eyes, the assessor did not move anymore. She then made a hole in the garden to bury him.
