In the odyssey we can learn about ancient customs and manners from books 7,8 and 9 we know that in ancient times people like to introduce there guest and then ask them who they are. (Page 375 line 97) “ They fell in, soon enough, with lotos eater who showed us no will to do us harm only offering us sweet lotos”. In this passage we can see that the lotos eaters are being polite, and offering free sweet lotos to them because in ancient times they show there welcome to there guests first.
In the odyssey we can also see that ancient time Greece people were not polite and stupid as well as smart we can see in(book 9 page 383 line 380) “you ask my honorable name? Remember the gift you promised me, and I shall tell you, my name is nohbdy: mother, father, and friend everyone calls me nohbdy”. In this passage we can see that odysseus is being smart because he knows what the Cyclops will say after. The Cyclops then says (page 383 line 424) “ the mammoth polythemos roared in answer: nohbdy, nohbdy’s tricked me nohbdy’s ruined me!”. In this passage we can see that it shows that some people are stupid and they don’t know whether Odysseus is lying or not.
In conclusion I think that in ancient customs and manners are good because they are wise and they show and then tell stories of there past
