The King of Rock and Roll.
In 1935, somewhere south of Mississippi, in the United States of America, a baby boy was born. His birth was a sad one, as his birth was meant to be shared with a twin, but his brother was delivered stillborn.
Elvis began taking music in the eighth grade. He was given a C and was told he had no talent for singing. He tried breaking into song on numerous occasions, but they failed to work. So, instead, he spread rumors through the school about how the music teacher was a mean old ‘witch’.
Elvis Presley entered the first grade at East Tupelo Consolidated and his teachers thought his talent to be ‘mediocre’. In the sixth grade, he was transferred to Milam, where he was regarded as a ‘loner’ and didn’t make any friends. It took him a year to sum up the courage to impress his peers but he did it; one day, during lunch, Elvis sang. His country music did not help him very much as his school consisted of mostly African-American students. His parents quickly moved him to L. C. Humes High School, in Tennessee.
This boy didn’t realize he was destined for greatness up until his eighth birthday, when his mother signed him up for a talent show at his local church. At the age of eleven, the boy crossed paths with fate as he bought a guitar. Originally, the boy was hoping to receive a rifle, but his mother had convinced him that he should pursue his musical talents and the boy did not oblige as he was handed the tuneful instrument.
His first shout out to the public could have been that very same year, but the boy was too shy to sing in front of an audience. Instead, at the age of twelve, he went live at a local radio station and sang his little heart out. After which, many listeners called in to figure out whether or not the singer was black.
Throughout his reign, he had numerous platinum and gold albums, won three Grammy awards and had eighteen No.1 singles like “Suspicious Minds”, “Good luck charm” and “Don’t be cruel”.
Presley was one of the first to be put up in the rock and roll hall of fame in 1986. However, though he was mostly known for his remarkable contributions to rock, he also liked to rotate between gospel and country. This led to the induction of both the country hall of fame and the gospel music hall of fame.
Presley’s death was, contrary to popular belief of an overdose on constipation, due to a heart failure. He died in 1977, at the age of 42. He never got to walk his daughter down the aisle and into the arms of Nicholas Cage or attend the auction that sold him famous white tracksuit for thirteen million dollars.
Elvis Presley was and will always be known as the King of Rock because he didn’t just invent the concept of Rock and Roll, but he also the greatest ballad singer known in the history of mankind and was not afraid to shake his pelvis to the beat whenever the chance arose. Heads today will still turn to the sound of his name, voice and even the mention of Rock in the hopes he is involved. Although he was taken at a young age, he left the building with his pants down and a smile on his face.
